SketchM Paper Prototype

ROLE: I WORKED ON THIS ASSIGNMENT IN A GROUP WITH THREE OF MY CLASSMATES. WITH MY BACKGROUND IN DESIGN, I WAS ABLE TO TAKE A LEADERSHIP ROLE IN GUIDING MY GROUP’S DESIGN CHOICES. ONCE WE FINISHED CREATING OUR PRODUCT, I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR EDITING AND FORMATTING OUR RESULTS INTO A READABLE FILE (SEE BELOW).

TASK: THIS PROJECT SERVED AS THE SECOND ASSIGNMENT IN MY USER INTERFACE DESIGN COURSE AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY. OUR GROUP WAS TASKED WITH CREATING TWO PAPER PROTOTYPES ADDRESSING THE DESIGN OF A FICTITIOUS USER INTERFACE SYSTEM CALLED SKETCHM. THIS SYSTEM ALLOWS A TEAM OF USERS TO CREATE AND MANAGE SKETCHES ON INDIVIDUAL TOUCHSCREEN TABLETS. ONE INTERFACE ALLOWS THE USER TO CREATE, SUBMIT AND ORGANIZE SKETCHES, WHILE THE OTHER INTERFACE ENABLES USERS TO ORGANIZE AND PRESENT THESE SKETCHES.

SOLUTION: WE FIRST CREATED AN INITIAL PAPER PROTOTYPE OF EACH USER INTERFACE. WE THEN CONSTRUCTED THREE PERSONAS ALONG WITH THREE USE CASES WITH WHICH WE TESTED OUR PROTOTYPES. AFTER TAKING NOTES ON THIS PROCESS, WE MODIFIED OUR PROTOTYPE TO ADDRESS ISSUES WE ENCOUNTERED. WE THEN TESTED OUR PRODUCT WITH ANOTHER TEAM OF INDIVIDUALS, UNFAMILIAR WITH OUR INTERFACES AND MADE ADDITIONAL EDITS.
